I've had much worse experiences at places than here, the issue lies in that most school systems dump the drug addicted kids here, and anyone who needs real help is shut down. I've had staff call me slurs, and nothing done. hell there's a rumor that one staff stares at female students. I'd recommend to only send kids that REALLY need it here. But, it has been a really good learning experience. not from the classes, but by the failures they raise, to top that, they lock you in solitary confinement if you try to stand up for yourself, the world's an unjust place, but it shouldn't be for kids

I was in the DAS program more than once. And I was in the RTF there when I was 15. Depending on what staff was working had depended on how the day go. I bonded with a few staff. And when they worked things were fine. But when staff worked that just were cranky and didn’t like there job was when things got rough. The therapist I had there would twist my words. And during my stay there me and the rest of the kids had to be sent to another facility due to them supposedly closing. So I was sent to glade run.

Horrible place. We had the therapist and crisis manager who was great. Heard us and our needs. But that dr song only wanted to push medications on my son. When I refused she refused to make contact with us until I wanted to increase his meds. Also when I was asking for help in regards to my sons increased behaviors she wouldn’t help. He needed RTF and she kept refusing to sign off on it. Even with his increased aggression. She was no help AT ALL. I would not recommend this place with her as the dr. ITS NOT ALL ABOUT MEDICATION

I was in MHY back in 2001til 2002 and in 2003 til 2004. Both times were a great experience for me. I learned so much from my peers and the staff, I even still have contact with most of them. I will never forget my times there. Both times I lived in the Collins house (funny enough in the same room too) and I loved being there. I only had issues with one staff member each time I was there. I will always cherish the friendships I made there. Thank you everyone that helped me grow and learn while I was there.

So far this place and their staff have done an amazing job working with my son. My baby is doing so well with everything, and he loves it. Now yes I was scared at first and didn't want anything happening but with only a week and a half left they've done a tremendous job helping my baby and my baby has done an amazing job himself. I am a sketchy of places like this but my honest opinion I definitely recommend this place and I hope it continues to help other children in need as well thank you for all that you've done!

Not organized. Had a family visit and couldn't find a place. Alot of walking knowing one of us are handicap, not great communication or organization. Some employees are very nice. Have some great therapist. Don't hear much from doctors or staff when asked to be updated.

My 11 y/o child was placed here for mental health help after 5 1/2 weeks of being on the wait list. I sent my child with the intentions of a proper assessment being done for a diagnoses and treatment with medication. As well as therapy with a mental health therapist. To get my child stabilized and in a place where they weren't suicidal and hurting themselves then transition them to a residential treatment facility for further therapy. The therapist was amazing. There's a huge lack of communication however, between staff as well as a shortage of staff, leaving units unable to provide the direct care some kids on the units need. When asked to be updated on my child on a regular basis, it took a week and me asking for a meeting with department heads to begin that communication process. My child ended up needing a higher level of care than could be provided after 57 days away from home originally to be 28. I was called and told they could no longer keep my child safe, which I had questioned over a month ago at another meeting I had to ask to have, as my child was not improving but worsening in their care. I was given two options of which both would put my child into a psychiatric hospital. I chose to pick up my child and take them to a recommended hospital thus discharging my child from the program at MHY we had waited over a month to get into. We walked into the emergency room of the psychiatric hospital with guidance from MARS in the form of a letter explaining why I was bringing my child there to the er in need of help and a couple hours later we left that hospital. They wouldn't admit my child because they were not actively in crisis. I have no where to keep her safe. Now I'm losing hours of sleep every night because I'm afraid my child will commit suicide. And there's nothing I can do. The system is messed up and there are people running Mars Home for Youth poorly and at the expense of young peoples lives. They made a decision to discharge with no warning and gave me a false sense of security thinking I was taking my child to a safer and more appropriate level of care being the hospital.
Please be an advocate for your child and don't let the mental health system fail them. It's not their fault. They deserve to be well.
