We booked this studio to arrange a surprise proposal for my best friend’s engagement that was supposed to happen on 02/22/25 at 5pm. However, when my best friend’s fiancé arrived to the studio at 4pm to begin setting up for the proposal, he was told that they had a party currently going on and that they overbooked. He was also informed that they had an old website that was still active, but they no longer used. However, the old booking site allowed for him to book the studio a month in advance, which required a $150 deposit that was successfully processed. The old site also sent him multiple confirmation notifications up until the date that he booked for. After being told there was nothing that could have been done at that time, we had to quickly come up with a new place to proceed forward with the proposal as we had also already booked with our photographer for that day as well.

Everyone knows how important it is to have everything in order for special events especially a surprise proposal. So to have things suddenly fall apart was extremely inconveniencing. The $150 was eventually refunded, but that does not take a way the passion, dedication, and creativity put into what was supposed to be a meaningful surprise. We understand there was little that could have been done in the moment, but hope you all learn to develop the character of having empathy in situations like this one to not sour prospective relationships with future or returning customers.

If you are looking for a sign to shoot here, here it is! My client and I thoroughly enjoyed our shoot time at the Black Umbrella Studio. Luis, the owner, was welcoming, knowledgeable, and very helpful. He went out of his way to make sure my client and I had everything we needed, and even helped me move around lighting. I will definitely be coming back.

Music video shoot, booked the day, great experience, here are the details including pros/cons.

PROS:
Pricing: Day rate pricing is very reasonable and included amenities beyond the studio space itself like c-stands, a couple of lights, etc.

Studio quality: Excellent - lots of space, ultra high ceiling, huge/superb infinity wall, cool props and furniture options, etc. Very good.

Booking experience: Excellent - easy to find a date, reserve the slot and make a payment.

Flexibility/Reschedule: Subject got very sick a few days before the shoot and rescheduling was low stress and easy.

Staff/Service: Help from the owner with setting up, etc - all around, the owners are genuinely there to help everything run smooth. Super cool people, really enjoyed having them on set AND they were careful not to step on my toes (re: directing or getting involved beyond supporting my vision.) They were quick to dip and let me work whenever I wasn't actively asking them for assistance - This means a lot fr - nothing to ruin my vibe like someone hovering over my shoulder. None issue here.

CONS:
The space is fenced in for security - which I like for my gear/grip truck, etc. It took a minute to get access when crew started showing up, but other than that slight delay it was cake. (less than 5 minutes for sure.) It's a minor inconvenience but totally worth it for the security IMO.

OVERALL:
Highly recommend. I'm certain I'll be booking more clients into the space for both my commercial content creation and other creative projects.

Scheduled my shoot several months in advance and they absolutely forgot about it.. extremely unprofessional.. this is exactly why I don’t support black businesses anymore.. save your money, and book with someone else.

I absolutely love Black Umbrella and the two amazing people who work in this place. It is a safe space for all creators. I will recommend Black Umbrella to everyone because it was just that dope ! We filmed for a black owned clothing brand and the photographer showed us so much love ! They did an amazing job with the different lights and giving us ideas. I also love that it is gated! Follow them and show some love and support ! You will not regret it.

The Team at Black Umbrella Studio were amazing!

The facility is HUGE and very CLEAN. They provided extra lights for my photographer as well as seats to style my shoot.

The speakers and music were also the perfect touch to liven up the mood of my shoot.
