Pima county goverment is pretty messed up.
When you submit plans to build anything that has "exterior lighting" you are required to show all exterior light fixtures on a plan, with total lumens, bulb wattage, etc. per the lighting zone of which you reside and/or which you plan on building.
The Pima county outdoor lighting code must be complied with on submitted plans or no permit for building will be issued.
So when my new neighbor moved in and pointed about ten high intensity lights at my house, my yard, the street, in cars approaching from the road, I contacted Pima County code enforcement to file a complaint. My only other option would have been to point lights back at them.
So I took the legal route, filed a complaint, and was kinda shocked that the attitudes of these code-enforcement officials was to kinda take the side of the OFFENDER?
WHAT WORTHLESS DEAD WEIGHT.
We live on the edge of riparian and preserve in the darkest of lighting zones.
The inspector who finally came out did not seem to care one bit about the fact we have a right to our darkness, regardless of some idiot that has mental issues and thinks he can drive us from our home by lighting up the night sky (and our house and yard) with their 10 newly installed as seen on TV light fixtures. Crazy.
Do something Pima County as far as enforcing your ridiculous outdoor lighting code or drop the idiotic requirements when submitting plans.
This was all supposed to ensure dark nighttime skies because of the observatories we have in S. AZ. and preserve darkness for wildlife and for those residents that actually appreciate and follow the law.
