The Reading Pagoda is one of Pennsylvania’s most unique landmarks, sitting high on Mount Penn with breathtaking views of Reading and beyond. Built in 1908 as part of a luxury resort that never happened, the Pagoda has since become a beloved symbol of the city. Its Japanese-style architecture stands out against the Pennsylvania landscape, making it a must-visit for history buffs, photographers, and anyone looking for a peaceful escape. Inside, you’ll find exhibits on its history, plus a gift shop. The best part? The panoramic view from the top, especially at sunrise or sunset! Whether you’re stopping for a quick visit or spending time exploring, the Reading Pagoda is a true hidden gem.

This place was amazing. It's like a hidden gem tucked away in Reading, Pa. We went at night because of course I wanted to see it light up. And it was everything I expected and more.

The area around the budilding is gated and closed off...but there is still plenty to see from the gate.
I need to absolutely go during the day to see more....but at night, you get the beautiful glow as well as the beautiful view of Reading ( which by the way is huge)

A few tips:
📍in the evening, it is true that it becomes a hangout for the younger generation. ( there was a few cars and teens when we went, they were very nice and honestly didn't pay no mind)
📍The building is closed off to the public till further notice. It also states this on their website.
📍It's up a windy hill so pay close attention
📍It's completely free to the Public to go and view from the gate.
📍 It's Open from Dusk till Dawn. ( we went late at like around 10 or 11pm)

Have fun, and take lots of Pics!!!

I loved this place. Spectacular view 💚. The Pagoda should be open to the public again to view it inside. Overall it’s really nice. Accesible parking 🅿️.
Do not wear skirts or dresses it’s really windy 🌬️😄

Typically a beautiful view; I happened to be there during the brushfire. But it is such a cool building with lots of places to look out over reading. I recommend going during the day and keep an eye out for the actual pagoda to open again, I was not able to go inside. There is a decently sized parking lot and sidewalks all the way up and down for walking. Many of the trails are closed off currently.

The winding hair pin turns make the assent to the Pagoda an exciting drive. There is limited parking once you reach the Pagoda.
Keep in mind you will feel the wind when you stop here. So be prepared.
The view is grand and worth the drive to see it.
I'd like to drive this again when the fall colors are showing.
Overall a positive experience for a Wednesday in December.

The building itself and the view were beautiful, but it was completely overrun with Hispanic people blasting loud music, burning out in their cars and riding motorcycles everywhere. I was absolutely shocked... I'm talking over 100 people raising hell and being disrespectful.

Engaged here on 3/13/25 and I got a great photo of the pagoda itself. It's still closed, but we were so happy to find it still lights up at sunset. People were partying and playing loud music in competition with each other so nobody even noticed us and we were able to just have a private moment even though there were a ton of people.

Bring a sweater bc the wind up there gets worse. Lol.
Pagoda is closed, but the view is amazing and worth it. Watch for speedy cars though through the curves.
