Cape May Contracting just completed a complete restoration of the exterior of our home in the Cape May Historic District. Every stick of wood was replaced with cedar and mahogany. The asbestos roof was removed and replace with cedar shake. There was no sheathing on the house so Bob and his team added sheathing, insulation and a Zip barrier system prior to installing new cedar siding. CMC and its subs took extraordinary care of our home throughout the restoration and we could not be more pleased with the results. By far the best general contractor among the five we’ve worked with in Cape May on two different houses. Can’t recommend them enough.

I hired Cape May Contracting to replace rotten joists and sill plates in my home. After a brief call, Bob, the owner, met me at my home for an in person consultation. After a thorough inspection of the crawlspace, Bob provided a detailed description of the issues in my crawlspace and outlined several options for fixing the problem. He explained that water was present in the crawlspace and causing the rot and offered advice for fixing the issue long term. I greatly appreciated Bob’s honesty, professionalism, and willingness to discuss several options, which helped me make an informed decision.

I decided to go forward with Cape May Contracting and they had workers out almost immediately. Tom, John, and Kevin all worked diligently and repaired the rotted joists and sill plates with time to spare. Since then, my floors are solid and my crawlspace has remained dry. My wife and I had been looking for 2 years for the right twin house in Cape May’s village green section. While riding bikes one day we noticed Bob Gleeson and his crew working on a twin. My wife inquired about it and Bob was very accommodating in explaining “the project” he had planned. The rest is history and we closed on the house a couple of weeks ago with nothing but positive feedback to give. We hesitated at first because we were buying a construction in progress with only photos to look at for finished product. We made the right decision. Bob’s knowledge of construction and his creativity is amazing and he gave us full decision making ability to change things ( which was minimal because his plans were spot on). The plan had a specific budget for each sub project and in some cases we went over that without being charged in a “nit picking way”. He was pleasant to deal with and helpful in selections which were difficult in that my wife could not decide on many things. He involved his wife Karly who was just as terrific and helpful. We love our new house and very highly recommend Cape May Contracting for any construction project you may have a need for.

My husband and I discussed remodeling our Cape May home for several years. We needed a more open living space and a complete remodel of our kitchen. In addition to this we wanted to update bathrooms, replace flooring and repaint the entire interior. We assumed we might need to remove the wall of our galley kitchen and felt we would likely need to hire an architect or at least a full-service contractor with design capabilities. I began looking around Cape May in late 2020 for signs of contractors working on projects that appeared to be similar in size and age (early 2000) to our home in the Tranquility neighborhood. Something about the sign for Cape May Contracting, Inc. caught my eye and subsequent internet research inspired me to give the company a call.
We set up an appointment to meet owner Bob Gleeson at our home and discuss our thoughts and any ideas he might suggest. I worried he would come into our home and suggest that our house was just too small a project for him during this booming construction period in Cape May. Bob could not have been more helpful and encouraging with both our ideas and his insightful suggestions. No architect would be necessary. His company is a full-service contracting company. Every step along the way from the cabinet design to the appliance selections, he had the right people for us to work with. His construction crew and every subcontractor (plumbing, tile, cabinetry, electrical, painting, etc.) came to our home to meet us and discuss both ideas and plans. At that point we knew we made the right decision and would be working with the best contracting company in Cape May. A proposal and drawings were agreed upon and we were set to begin our project.
We would be spending the next 6 months in our home down south so it was critical that we felt comfortable leaving our Cape May home open for the different subcontractors. We knew we would not be available for onsite check-ins. This was not a problem for the Cape May Contracting crew and their subcontractors. Bob and his crew stayed in contact with us and even Facetimed for periodic reviews. When I realized I could not find suitable final selections on bathroom fixtures, lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, backsplash tile colors, etc., Bob brought in his talented wife Karly to assist. Bravo! We could not have been happier with their ideas and selections.
Once we returned to Cape May and had to finalize our punch list, Bob and his crew were only a phone call away. I found this pretty remarkable considering the number of other jobs he had going. We never felt like he gave any bigger project priority over us. We always felt like we had his full attention!
