We went at a slow time - and didn't have a guided tour. We did have a 25-minute movie on the history of Fort Myers Beach from the Calusa years to about the late 1990s - with great interviews from elderly (in the 1990s) residents who'd lived there their entire life. The house has many exhibits showing life before the Europeans took over - with explanations and artifacts. The grounds have signs about the area, the vegetation, and the history of the house. All-in-all between the movie, the house, and the grounds - we spent about 90 minutes here. There's a small gift shop. And... good views across the water.

If you are in the area or passing through, this an interesting small historical museum focusing on the origins and development of the city of Fort Myers Beach. It takes about one to one and a-half hours, including the 30-minute tour, which takes place twice a day around the noon hour. Parking is free but extremely limited (say 6 cars or so). Exhibits show artifacts of the ancient Calusa Indian people and explains what is known of their life before the European conquest and their encounters with Ponce de Leon. Other exhibits explain the early white settlement of the region and its growth into a city. The tour includes a hands-on exhibit of Calusa artifacts and practice with an atlatl (spear thrower).

Excellent opportunity for our students. Everyone enjoyed learning about our local history and had fun. The staff and volunteers were engaging and knowledgeable. Highly recommended for a school trip and also as a return for a parent with your family. They have kayak tours and the location is beautiful!

Beautiful place to visit and learn the history of Ft Myers beach. I highly recommend taking a bike ride or walk to visit. Enjoy the boardwalk over the intercostal waterway. Look for fish, dolphins and other sea life. Read the history of the mound house and learn if it is the highest point on Ft Myers beach. Enjoy.

Very interesting place. If you do the boat tour to Mound Key, be aware the trail is rough and there are some steep hills. I would recommend closed toed shoes. Mound Key doesn't have too much to see, there are information boards, but no structures. The view on top is pretty and the ride over was great, but if you are expecting structures and artifacts on the key, you may be disappointed. The trail through the mangroves and trees is actually very pleasant. It can be very warm, take water. The guide was very informative about the area, history, birds and plants. The boat crew as well. We were able to see several bird varieties and dolfins.

Beautiful property. Wasn't able to view the homes interior as there are limited days to see it. Property has a great deal of educational information regarding the local flora and fauna.
