I feel deceived by this company. I, too, was contacted hours after my husband's death and told about him designating as a donor. No organs were viable so I was told he could donate tissue and/or long bone. I clearly stipulated no bones were permitted to be retrieved. I was told that tissues were taken from upper layer only of epidermis. I gave permission for retrieval of top epidermis skin from hip to knee only. No organs, including cornea, no bones. I went to funeral home and was told they took more than the tissues. They had taken all bones from his legs(long bones). I was horrified and felt betrayed. There was a restriction of top skin tissues from hip to knee only! I would NEVER donate anything to this company. HOW DEPLORABLE CAN YOU GET DURING A PERSONAL TRAGEDY LIKE DEATH OF A LOVED ONE! I am so upset! I have told numerous future donors who will not be donating their organs. They will be withdrawing donor permission. Shame on this company's abuse. One important fact I found out: even though they were listed as donors, the next of kin can deny donation of organs / tissues/ bones. They don't inform you about that either. Despicable, unethical, deplorable, insensitive, and deceptive. BEWARE!!!!

In November of 2023 my father passed away. After having to make the decision to remove my father off life support we were met by Mid American Transplant and told he was an organ donor and we wanted to honor his wishes.

We trusted Mid American Transplant at an extremely vulnerable time. They were kind and empathetic during the process. I was told that weeks or months down the line we would be receiving all the information about what gifts my Dad was able to provide for others, which made us feel better with our decision.

Yesterday, i received a knock on our door from our mailman with a certified letter from Mid American and I was excited because I assumed it was the information regarding his gifts.

It was a letter that stated they appreciated our willingness to fulfill my Dads wishes but that he was still at their funeral home and had been there since the date of his passing and despite their efforts to reach me to make arrangements for my father (which did NOT happen) they were going to cremate him and scatter, bury, or properly place his remains and to call the funeral home by January 22nd.

This came as a shock to me because we already had what we believed to be my fathers ashes. Whos ashes do I have? My fathers been sitting at a funeral home for over 2 months? The mental images that flooded my head are some I’m not sure I’ll ever recover from.

After calling both numbers provided in the letter I was told the letter was sent by mistake and the ashes I have are in fact my fathers. How does this kind of mistake happen? Why was I not notified via phone and instead sent a jarring certified letter?

I am understanding and know that mistakes are made. This kind of mistake is traumatic, unacceptable, and irresponsible- especially to those grieving.

Do your research before working with this company.

My wife passed on August 29. We were only able to donate her kidneys and we learned that blessed two individual people. The staff from Mid-America Transplant was absolutely wonderful. They even updated me by text once they took my wife to the operating room.

This company was so heartless and had no respect for me as a grieving mother to my autistic son Kyran. They called hours after his death. Took more tissues and organs than I gave permission to. Left him a mess for the funeral home. I regret every organ and tissue that was taken f
om my baby.

VERY pushy people. My son died suddenly and we didn't know he'd signed a donor card. They called at 11:30 pm the day he died! They were wanting to make a arrangements to get the body!!
His young daughter did not want her daddies body tampered with. So we told MWT no! The next morning a woman called and said they WOULD come to get his organs etc whether we liked it our not!!! I threatened her twice with a lawsuit. She said they were coming anyway!
When we got to the funeral home to make arrangements I asked the director if my son's body had left his facility. ABSOLUTELY NOT! He said and added that they are very rude and ruthless!!
I've always been an organ donor but not any more!
You read the reviews and as long as they get their way they are "kind and compassionate" but read when someone tells them no! Their attitude changes!!!

I lost a loved one and I was the main decision maker for the family. I knew right away I wanted to donate their organs. Tyler was absolutely amazing every step of the way. He answered every question with compassion and honesty. He made the process as smooth and easy as he possibly could during a very difficult time.

Extremely hateful pushy people. After watching my mother suffer for 5 days I get a phone call from a very nasty abrasive man asking for her organs. He would not take no for an answer and kept pushing. During times of grief families don't need to deal with a jerk. Yes means yes and no means no!
